Preparing For Your Next Move
We've been helping customers move for over 100 years.
Over the years, we have noticed some things that make the process easier. Here are a few moving tips to help minimize stress before the big day.
Before the move
Start by getting all your packing supplies together and removing clutter. Hosting garage sales or using online auction sites can help cut down on unwanted items. Planes also offers a junk removal service that can help you minimize both the size and cost of your move.
Once you know what you are taking to your next destination, start packing what you can and be sure to label everything. Doing some pre-work to organize your things will make the packing process smoother whether you decided to have Planes pack your belongings or you decide to pack yourself.Call to Learn About Junk Removal
During the Move
Double check for any overlooked items, keeping in mind that movers and professional packers can't go into attics or crawl spaces. You'll also need to be available to look over and sign any necessary paperwork while the movers load the truck. Planes professional moving teams take great care to not damage any property during the pack and move process. However, we do ask our customers to check for property damage before the Planes team departs so that it can be documented and the team can begin working to resolve any issues.
Planes wants your new house to feel like home as quickly as possible. Be ready to direct where each piece of furniture will be placed. You'll also want to look over the move inventory and note any discrepancies. Make sure you keep all documents pertaining to your move in a safe place for tax filing purposes.
Our Core Locations

"The team did a great job with the move of my furniture from Dayton to Louisville. My grandfather clock came through the move wonderfully -the team took such great care to protect it, and I am so grateful. They made sure each item was wrapped in blankets, and added extra protection anyplace that looked vulnerable. They were efficient, polite, and super helpful. They communicated to let me know when to expect them on each end of the move, so I wasn't left hanging. Highly recommend!!"
nice, efficient, and professional
"The team showed up this morning on-time and did a great job laying out the plan -what would be needed from me, what they would be doing. The whole crew was very nice, efficient, and professional. After all the time packing, it was such a relief to leave the rest to these guys. They treated all our items with care and made sure our day was seamless, which was especially important since we had a flight to catch later in the day. Thank you so much for making our move stress-free!"
by far the best
"I’m active duty military and have moved around quite a bit and dealt with many different moving companies. I can easily say Planes moving is by far the best moving company that has packed and moved my house. The employees they send out are extremely professional, friendly and have gone out of their way to take care of my stuff. Jake and his boys today were efficient and extremely courteous today. I will definitely be letting the military know to keep using planes moving."
"Our “Elite” moving team was absolutely awesome! They were well prepared, hard working, fun and took extra care to assure that we felt good about the process. On a very stressful day, they put our family at ease! Very professional and experienced team that I highly recommend!"
Yes! A good pack job means wrapping items carefully, including lots of cushioning in each box, using sturdy cartons that close completely and clearly labeling each box. We can provide you with videos and guides that show the correct methods of packing your items!
Local moves are charged at an hourly rate, so cost is based on the time it will take to move all of your belongings from your current home to your new home.
Hazardous items that pose a potential risk while in transit should not be packed into your shipment. Items considered hazardous include: aerosol cans, ammonia, ammunition, car batteries, charcoal/lighter fluid, charged scuba tanks, chemistry sets, cleaning solvents, darkroom chemicals, fertilizer, fire extinguishers, fireworks, fuels/oils, household batteries, kerosene, liquid bleach, loaded guns, matches, nail polish/remover, paint thinners, paints/varnishes, pesticides, poisons, pool chemicals, propane tanks, rubbing alcohol, sterno fuel, and weed killer. Perishable items such as food without adequate preservation, frozen foods, open or half-used foods, plants, produce and refrigerated foods should not go on the truck. Personal items of great sentimental value or importance should travel with you. If you have any questions about certain household items before your move, just ask one of our team members!
Delivery timing is based on weight and mileage and federal CSA guidelines. It can be as early as the next day, or up to a few weeks if your shipment is smaller and you are traveling a farther distance. For long-distance moves, your coordinator will provide a delivery spread and keep you updated daily while your items are en route to destination.
Yes, but how much protection you have and its cost to you depend upon the “valuation” option you choose – Basic Protection/ Released Value Liability (60 cents per pound per article, 30 cents per pound per article in Illinois), or Full-Value Protection based on the dollar amount you declare. Ensure that you accurately value your belongings so that you are covered appropriately. We also recommend that you speak with your insurance agent about your Home Owner’s Policy to see if you have any coverage for your belongings during a move.
Basic coverage, which is provided at no additional charge means that our maximum liability for loss or damage to any article in your shipment is 60/30 cents multiplied by the weight of the article. What does that mean? If you have a 50” flat screen TV that weighs 25 lbs. you will receive $15.15 to cover the damage. Our crews do everything they can to prevent damage to your belongings but in the rare instances where items incur damage, it is important to understand the type of coverage you have. Valuation does work a little differently if you have a local vs. a long distance move. So, if you have any additional questions, be sure to ask one of our moving experts.
